About the Role

As a Lighting Technician, you’ll prepare, install and operate production lighting systems across Australia, working both in our Tullamarine warehouse and in venues on touring and one-off events. You’ll work within a structured and safety-focused environment, closely following plans, processes and technical standards to ensure high-quality delivery.

You’ll be part of a team responsible for rigging, power and data distribution, networking, equipment prep, and supporting Lighting Designers, Operators and touring crews. The role is hands-on, fast-paced and highly varied, with significant opportunities to grow your skills through real project experience.

MPH Lighting Technicians are engaged at levels that reflect their experience and capability, from Trainee through to Technical Supervisor with clear pathways to progress through structured learning goals and peer-to-peer training.


What You’ll Be Doing

Equipment Preparation & Systems Setup

  • Prep, test and label lighting fixtures, dimmers, distro, data racks and cabling

  • Build flown and floor lighting systems according to plans

  • Implement structured power and data distribution layouts

  • Complete functional checks and ensure show-readiness

On-Site Technical Production Duties

  • Assist with rigging, truss assembly, cabling and system builds

  • Lead or support Local Crew depending on level

  • Operate or support lighting operations, comms, atmospherics and networked systems

  • Troubleshoot control, data and fixture issues in real time

  • Maintain safe work areas and uphold MPH standards

Networking & Data Systems

  • Support configuration and connection of lighting networks, consoles, switches and comms

  • Implement IP addressing, timecode and data pathways

  • Liaise with LDs, touring operators and other departments regarding integrated networks

Touring & Load-outs

  • Pack down systems safely and efficiently

  • Prepare equipment for transport

  • Load trucks for touring efficiency

Your Work Environment

  • Based in our Tullamarine (VIC) warehouse with frequent touring throughout Australia

  • Roughly 20% warehouse preparation / 80% onsite production work

What You’ll Bring

Required (for entry level positions)

  • Current Australian Driver Licence

  • White Card

  • Basic lighting networking skills (DMX, RDM, IP fundamentals)

  • Basic computer literacy

  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills

  • Commitment to safe work practices and structured processes

Favourable

  • Prior paid experience in technical production, lighting, film, logistics or similar

  • Strong interest in production lighting and willingness to learn

  • Comfort working at pace and following technical plans

Favourable Qualifications

  • Forklift licence

  • EWP (over 11m)

  • Dogging or Rigging qualifications (Basic / Intermediate / Advanced)

  • Working at Heights

Trainee roles may occasionally be available for highly motivated applicants with limited experience — apply and show us why you’re keen.


Hours & Pay

  • Working hours: Ad hoc, depending on touring and event schedules

  • Pay: Hourly rate between AU$35.66ph (trainee level) – AU$60.00 (Technical Supervisor 10+ years), commensurate with skills, experience and level
